Sir: If we are really concerned for the welfare of children then we should expect every pregnant woman to ask herself two questions: one is "do I really want this child?"; the other is "have I reasonable prospects of giving this child a fair chance in life?"
If the honest answer to either of these questions is in the negative then, in my opinion, the woman has a moral duty to consider abortion. If the notion of children's welfare means anything then no foetus should have live birth imposed upon it in the absence of positive answers to both questions.
