Your support makes all the difference.Sir: On 1 January, 1993, the export of live animals to Spain recommences after a six-year ban. This ban was introduced because of the horrendous conditions that existed in Spanish abattoirs.
What reasoning is behind the decision to export animals thousands of miles to Spain, causing untold misery and suffering, when our own slaughterhouses are closing down?
And what reassurances have we from the Spanish that they are meeting European Community rules on slaughter?
The Government promised to do all it could in its presidency of the EC to further the cause of animal welfare. Is this really the best it can do?
