Letter: Eternal rest in a nature reserve
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sir: I must congratulate Marina Cantacuzino on the care taken while researching for her article 'A natural place to be buried' (26 May). Her skills and sensitivity provide a fine example. However, through no fault on her part, the article includes an error that I must correct. The AB Wildlife Trust Fund has no 'anonymous benefactor'. The woman who provided the inspiration for this innovative organisation did not even have two farthings to rub together. To make this point, the motif of the trust is two farthings.
It took five years to bring this registered charity to its launch date and throughout this time the trustees dug into their own pockets - such was their determination to provide opportunities for others to bury friends and relatives in nature reserves, backed with a free bereavement support service. Clearly, this cannot happen without money; the trustees are now relying on others to dig deep into their pockets.
Yours faithfully,
JOHN BRADFIELD
