Sir: The blackboard lists scampi, ploughman's, lasagne, chilli con carne, and steak-and-kidney pudding. You could be having lunch in a pub anywhere in Britain.

Pub grub undoubtedly tastes better these days. But how much more inspiring it would be to see interesting regional dishes chalked up instead of the standard 'set menu'.
