From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Last night's Question Time took place in Aldershot. The panel featured the former leader of the Conservative party Michael Howard, Labour's shadow energy secretary Caroline Flint MP, Lib Dem MP Sarah Teather, Daily Mail columnist Amanda Platell and comedian Griff Rhys Jones. The topics of debate ranged the benefits system and Thatcher's legacy. Here's the word from Twitter...

On Amanda Platell...

@MartinBelam: "Amanda Platell and immigration in one easy to digest diagram bbcqt vennfest pic.twitter.com/zI3tf2KboO"

@louisebrealey: "I have had a big bottle of cider on an empty stomach. But I think it's okay to ask. Why is Sylvester Stallone's mother on bbcqt?"

On the measles epidemic and vaccinations...

@soulessssniper: "Should vaccinations be compulsory? Short answer: yes, long answer: yyyeeeeesssss."

On Sarah Teather...

@PatrickStrud: "Your politics was formed out of opposing Thatcher Sarah? Yet you prop up her ideological children, Cameron and Osborne? Hypocrite."

On the Living Wage...

@GavinEdwards: Michael Howard is wrong wrong wrong. This is why raising Min Wage to Living Wage would not cost jobs http://labourlist.org/2013/01/a-living-wage-for-all-should-be-labours-mission/ …

On Caroline Flint...

@OliverCooper: "Thankfully, I missed Caroline Flint on BBCQT, and thus didn't subject my TV to a torrent of abuse or subject myself to a heart attack."

On Griff Rhys Jones...

@davidschneider: "I'm loving Griff Rhys Jones' new character. Hilarious! bbcqt"
