From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. You will no doubt be aware by now of the momentous news that Kim Kardashian, 32, is pregnant with Kanye West's baby (he's 35). West broke the news at an Atlantic City concert on Sunday night. But what does the internet think?
The Kardashian family are predictably excited. Little sister @KhloeKardashian tweets "Keeping secrets is hard with so many family members! Especially when you are so freaking excited!!!!! LOVE is everything!!!!"
Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons was one of the first non-family members to tweet his congratulations, writing "Congrats to Kim and Kanye. Happy for both of them..."
One of Kardashian's celeb bessies and US X Factor judge Demi Lovato also tweeted "So happy for you @KimKardashian.. Love you SO much and I'm so excited to babysit!! Miss you girly.. Once again... SO happy for you!!! Xox"
The general Twitter rabble have been less kind, though. Some unchivalrously quoting lyrics from the 2005 Kanye West hit, 'Gold Digger': "18 years, 18 years / She got one of your kids got you for 18 years." Although since Kardashian has amassed a large fortune of her own through various endorsement deals and reality TV shows, that hardly seems fair.
According to tmz.com, Kardashian had "no idea" that Kanye was planning to announce their news at his concert, but wasn't angry that he did: "We're told she was crying tears of joy when Kanye revealed they're expecting, and was especially moved because he did it during one of her fave songs...'Lost in the World'"
Meanwhile, satirical website, The Poke simply asks "What if Kim Kardashian had a beard?"
