From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gawker reports disapprovingly on "tits-and-drugs rag Vice" accidentally revealing the location of on-the-run John McAfee, the 67-year-old founder of the antivirus company, who has been in hiding since his neighbour was murdered last month.

Vice Editor-In-Chief Rocco Castoro accampanied an article on McAfee with an iPhone photo that included GPS data. The data pinpointed their location near the Guatemala / Belize border. But before the any squat teams were launched, the dastardly genius that is McAfee had this to say: "I, for my own safety, manipulated the xif data on the image taken from my cellphone, and created a fake emergency so that the urgency of movement led, as I knew it would, to the hasty posting on their website." A statement which makes him sound even more like the Brain from Pinky and the Brain than he did before.
