Chris Brown attends Rihanna's Halloween party dressed as an Islamic terrorist
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Chris Brown cannot catch a break, can he? First his pop career is derailed for all of two minutes by a domestic violence charge and now his taste in bad-taste Halloween costumes is being questioned by the media. That media!
E! online, for one, would have preferred that Chris Brown attended his girlfriend-friend-victim-whatever Rihanna's Halloween bash in a more traditional vampire get up. Or perhaps mummy bandages*? Instead he opted for a turban, a fake beard, long khaki robes and a bullet belt. "Given his history, you wouldn't think Chris Brown would want to associate himself with violence and destruction," commented Rebecca Macatee at E!
Brown seems to have been oblivious to potential criticisms. He tweeted a picture of his outfit along with the comment "Ain't nobody F**king wit my clique!!! #ohb"
He does have one loyal fan though: his mother. Mrs Brown, whose unflagging loyalty to her son has been commented on before, leapt to his defence on Twitter "HALLOWEEN IS FOR FUN NOTHING MORE THAN JUST FUN. GET A LIFE PLEASE." (Caps are the tweeter's own.)
*Now we think about it, is there any Halloween costume Chris Brown could wear that wouldn't bring up uncomfortable associations in the minds of the public?
