Only weeks after it began in May, Cheryl Cole was dropped as a judge from US X Factor. She's now revealed what happened with music mogul Cowell after she heard the news.

At the time, TMZ said Cole was dropped from the judging panel because producers feared the American audience would not understand her Geordie accent.

There were also concerns the Girls Aloud star had a "lack of chemistry" with fellow X Factor judge Paula Abdul.

The former Girls Aloud star said she was called to meet the X Factor's executive producer in a London hotel during a break from filming in the US, but was then informed she had lost her place on the show. Although they offered her a spot on the original UK version, she turned the offer down.

In her autobiography she said: "[Cowell] didn't even have the guts to phone or send a message warning me what was coming.

"I was furious with Simon for letting it it happen like this. I believed we had a good friendship and I couldn't understand why he just hadn't been straight with me."

Cole said she wrote an expletive-filled text saying:

"I hate you. I understand you're a businessman, and what I've learned from this is that business means more to you than our friendship."

This weekend X Factor enjoyed a boost in figures, as Cheryl appeared as a guest judge with Gary Barlow who is mentoring the Over 28s category.

The singer was replaced on the US version of The X Factor with Pussycat Dolls star Nicole Scherzinger, who is a judge on this year's UK series.

In her autobiography, she also reveals her reaction when it was revealed that her husband Ashley Cole had cheated on her.

The singer said she felt "felt every emotion possible: confusion, sadness, physical pain, sickness and fury, like I’d never experienced." She also wrote how she struggled to sleep and needed medical help at the time of all the allegations surrounding her husband's infidelity in the press.
