Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Part 2 of the Homeless Veterans appeal's charity auction is closed. Part 3 - with more unbookable, distinctive and often unique lots - will run early in January.

All lots are subject to The Independent's Terms & Conditions.

See the Ebay help page if you're unsure how to bid.

Lot 1 SAS Diary

SAS war diary

The Special Air Service is perhaps the best known of all elite fighting forces. Set up to fight behind enemy lines during the Second World War, the SAS has been involved behind the scenes in almost every subsequent conflict in which Britain has participated. At the end of World War II the SAS was disbanded - temporarily. In response, one of its recruits decided to document the regiment’s history, binding in a homemade book every document he could find. The resulting diary then stayed hidden away for more than half a century before being handed over to the SAS Regimental Association by the veteran himself shortly before he died. In 2011, a limited run of 5,000 copies was produced to mark the SAS’s 70th anniversary. Now, thanks to the generosity of Robert Holding, a supporter of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, we are able to offer copy number 78 of the SAS Diary. It is a remarkable record of this country’s military history. This is a large book, 43x31x10cm – over 600 heavy weight pages. Excellent condition. There may be additional charges if shipping outside the UK.
