Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Where would we be without think-tanks to tell us about trends in modern life that we might otherwise overlook in our haste to make it through the day without losing the car keys? Special thanks then to the Institute for Public Policy Research for looking up some old copies of the Radio Times and reminding us of the increasing number of television programmes aimed at children. Where four hours a week were broadcast in 1952, now we have 620.

Marvellous. What is even better is that many more are imports – the Americans and the Japanese are good at animation featuring a strong moral. And many more are repeats – so if your children miss them you can catch them later. Best of all, children's news programmes have not increased at all – worthy stuff in which each item of eco-propaganda ends "campaigners say".

One question. Where did all those episodes of The Magic Roundabout go?
