Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Did someone say green growth? It turns out we're already well on the way. Hundreds of thousands of us have contacted the Royal Horticultural Society in recent years for information about growing fruit and vegetables. And the Chelsea Flower Show is launching a smartphone "app" designed to help amateur gardeners with useful tips on getting the best from their patches of land.
This resurgence of green-fingered activity is being put down to the harsh economic climate, as people seek to keep their food bills down by growing their own. This goes to show that a hefty quantity of fertiliser can indeed help roses grow. But all those neophyte planters must be prepared to sweat if they are to reap the benefits.
As Kipling put it: "Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made/By singing 'Oh, how beautiful!' and sitting in the shade". Or to put it more bluntly: Dig for Victory.
