Your support makes all the difference.The suppression of parts of a High Court ruling in the case of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident held in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, demands an explanation.
According to the Conservative MP David Davis, the judges presiding over this case were planning to publish evidence that British and American officials were complicit in the torture of Mr Mohamed by various foreign regimes, but were prevented from doing so by our Government after the US threatened to withdraw intelligence co-operation.
We have come to expect attempts to subvert our legal system and crude threats of non-co-operation from regimes such as Saudi Arabia, but for the US to resort to such tactics is staggering.
Mr Davis is right. The Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, needs to explain to the House of Commons and the country exactly why we are not allowed to hear the full evidence.
