Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

British tennis is in a good place. And not just because of the Grand Slam triumph by the Olympic champion Andy Murray. This has been a summer in which British tennis players have made great strides at all levels. We now have four women in the world’s top 150 and Laura Robson and Heather Watson look like top-30 potential at the very least. And a new generation of younger men are coming through in the shape of Oliver Golding, Kyle Edmund and Liam Broady. Quite an achievement for a sport that was, just five years ago, in some disarray. And for that the Lawn Tennis Association can take credit.

But the task now is to get those young men up to the same ranking as their female counterparts and also to ensure that standards are maintained lower down in the development programme. Let’s find more young players to follow in Andy Murray’s triumphant footsteps.
