'By giving something up, you can offer children a brighter future'
The founder of JustGiving on why they are backing our campaign – and why you should too
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. We at JustGiving are delighted to be supporting the “Give it up for GOSH” campaign. Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is one of this country’s most beloved institutions. It leads the world in the research and treatment of a huge range of aggressive diseases that threaten the lives of young people.
GOSH is undoubtedly a centre of excellence but perhaps more importantly it is a beacon of hope for families across the UK and beyond. Not only does GOSH offer very ill children the best possible clinical care, it also provides their families with a deep sense of community. GOSH is a place where families facing the impossible stress of a very sick child find understanding, compassion, belief and optimism. GOSH enables both parents and children to find comfort in meeting others in similar situations, helping them feel less isolated and alone. Even when illness is finally a distant memory, this powerful sense of community remains.
If you give something up for GOSH this January, you won’t just be helping to buy new medical equipment, you will also be investing in this community. By joining forces with GOSH patients, staff, families and supporters you will be fighting disease but you will also be fighting hopelessness. If you set up a fundraising page and encourage friends and family to support you in your challenge, JustGiving will be able to help you share the GOSH story with new potential supporters, helping hope travel even further.
The Independent, i and Evening Standard are providing GOSH with an invaluable platform from which to tell its extraordinary stories. Everyone who gets involved in giving something up for GOSH will also be getting something precious back – the chance to offer GOSH families a brighter future, lived out with their arms wrapped around their children.
