Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

l IT IS a pity that you chose to follow up your excellent article "Warning: Ecstasy causes amnesia" (7 January) with "Ecstasy kills teenager at club" (14 January). This ignores the fact that there is to date no reported death caused directly by Ecstasy. How many times must it be said? Education and facts are the solution.

l WHERE are the "blips" in the craniosacral system, a system not in any anatomy book ("The gentle touch", 14 January)? Massage is pleasant. It is not surprising it eases conditions such as asthma that have an important psychological overlay. There is no need to invest it with imaginary pathways to unblock. Dr Neville W Goodman

l ALAN Cram (Letters, 7 January) is mistaken in saying that the Family Railcard is being scrapped, it recently benefited from a promotion with Thomas the Tank Engine. There are no plans to withdraw the railcard, although Mr Cram's letter will do nothing to encourage sales.
