The actor’s breakthrough role was playing Legolas in Peter Jackson’s three-film Lord of the Rings series between 2001-2003, and then in The Hobbit series (2012-2014).
Bloom was asked about the possibility of returning for the prequel series at the Television Critics Association press tour this weekend, where he was promoting his new Amazon fantasy series Carnival Row.
“It’s funny, I remember being on set with [director] Peter [Jackson] 20 years ago now and he was saying, 'Wouldn’t it be funny to think about when they want to do a remake of Lord of the Rings,'” he said via The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that he was sceptical at the idea of a remake.
“We were in the midst of this remarkable shoot, and I was like, 'Never going to happen, never going to happen!'”
While Bloom said he thought it was “great” that Amazon was taking on the new project, he said there had been no conversations between him and the streaming service about it.
“I don't know where I would fit in that world, really,” he said. “If you're saying there's Legolas, they've probably got a 19 year-old kid who's ready to go.”
Earlier during the press tour, Amazon unveiled its creative team for the show, which is set to begin production in 2020.
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay will serve as the showrunners, with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's J.A. Bayona directing the first two episodes.
