Children demanding signatures pre-empt Coco Gauff’s US Open exit
Children holding giant tennis balls began queueing up for autographs while Coco Gauff was in the middle of her US Open match against Emma Navarro on Sunday, 1 September.
Third seed Gauff lost 6-3 4-6 6-3 to 13th seed Navarro - but before the match ended, youngsters filed down the corridors as Gauff was serving at 5-3 down in the third set.
Navarro’s win meant Gauff’s bid to become the first woman to defend the US Open title since Serena Williams in 2014 ended.
