Gary Lineker addresses Match of the Day exit rumours

Gary Lineker made light of rumours that he is leaving Match of the Day (MOTD) in the opening of Saturday’s (5 October) show.

It has been suggested that the presenter and former England player, 63, could leave the show when his contract comes to an end after 25 years as a host.

The broadcaster revealed it has not yet agreed a contract renewal with its highest-paid star, and denied speculation it was preparing to announce the end of his tenure.

Lineker introduced the show, saying with a smile: “Hello, seven games on the way and it’s my final show…before the international break,” prompting laughs from Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.
