White House says Texas abortion law ‘blatantly violates constitutional rights’
White House press secretary Jen Psaki has said the latest Texas abortion ban “blatantly violates” Americans’ constitutional rights established in landmark court case Roe v Wade. The ban on abortions after six weeks of pregnancy in Texas came into effect on Wednesday after an emergency request to block the law was ignored by the Supreme Court. The legislation is close to a complete ban on abortions in the state and gives any private citizen the ability to sue an abortion provider who breaks the law - making it the most radical abortion law in the US to ever take effect.
