Rayner says Sunak finally has a ‘working class’ friend as Dowden stands in for PMQs
Angela Rayner joked that Rishi Sunak “has a working class friend, finally” in a fiery exchange with Oliver Dowden during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday, 17 May.
The deputy Labour leader and deputy prime minister filled in for Sir Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak respectively as both party leaders were absent.
Ms Rayner’s remark appeared to be a referenced to a resurfaced video from 2001 of the prime minister, in which he declared that he did not have any working class friends - a comment Mr Sunak later described as “silly.”
