Starmer accuses government of 'sleaze, sleaze, sleaze'
Keir Starmer accused the government of “sleaze, sleaze, sleaze”, during a PMQs debate on the leaked messages between the prime minister and James Dyson.
The Labour leader said that the messages showed a culture of “favours, privileged access, tax breaks for mates” at the heart of government which was not available for steel workers facing redundancy, self-employed businesses at risk of bankruptcy or NHS staff needing a pay rise.
The prime minister insisted that agreeing to “fix” Dyson’s problems with tax was “the right thing to do” as he fought to supply ventilators for hospitals at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic.
