RNLI crew member recalls how ‘screams’ of distressed migrant stayed with him

An RNLI crew member has recalled how the “screams” of a rescued migrant have stayed with him.

Stuart Adams, a member of the Dungeness crew, spoke in footage shared by the organisation of a mass casualty exercise held in Dorset in April.

The RNLI said on Wednesday 14 June that their lifeboat crews saved the lives of 108 people crossing the English Channel last year.

“We went to a dingy in the early hours of the morning, it was torrential rain and thunderstorms,” Mr Adams said of his memorable rescue, before telling a story of a young migrant who had lost her son in the panic.

“The scream and panic from the woman just stayed with me for days.”
