Rebecca Cheptegei: Thousands mourn Olympian killed by ex-partner at full military funeral in Uganda
Thousands of mourners gathered for the funeral of Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Cheptegei, who died after she was set on fire by her former partner.
Dickson Ndiema attacked the 33-year-old Olympian with petrol outside her home in north-west Kenya, close to where she trained.
Among those at the funeral ceremony in a school field in Bukwo on Saturday (14 September) were fellow athletes. They wore t-shirts with the slogan "say no to gender-based violence".
A Ugandan flag was placed over Cheptegei’s coffin as mourners held a minute’s silence and paid their respects to her.
