Plumes of smoke rise after monks among at least 28 dead in alleged Myanmar military attack on monastery
Monks were among at least 28 people who were killed in an alleged Myanmar military attack on a monastery in the eastern Shan State on Saturday, 11 March, according to an insurgent group.
The Karenni Nationalities Defence Force said that troops attacked the Nan Nein village, executing villagers and monks they found in a monastery.
It comes as Myanmar continues to be embroiled in a decades-long civil war, which escalated following a military coup in February 2021.
According to the UN, the military increased airstrikes against civilian locations by 141 per cent in the second year following the coup.
