Children among dozens of migrants killed in boat crash off Italian coast

Children are among dozens of migrants who have died after a boat crashed into rocks off the coast of Italy.

It is estimated that nearly 60 passengers were killed when the boat carrying more than 140 migrants crashed and broke apart.

The boat was believed to have been carrying people from Iran and Afghanistan when it crashed into rocks in Calabria.

It had set sail from Turkey several days before the fatal crash.

Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni said the migrants were crowded into a 20-metre boat in “adverse weather conditions.”
