Derek Draper lifts himself out of wheelchair and walks again just nine days before death
Derek Draper lifted himself out of a wheelchair and walked again just nine days before suffering a cardiac arrest that led to his death in January, Kate Garraway's new ITV documentary has revealed.
The former political lobbyist used a wheelchair as he became seriously ill after contracting Covid.
In the final scenes of Kate Garraway: Derek's Story, a programme following the final year of Draper's life and highlighting the pressures of being a carer, he slowly lifts himself up and walks out of the door of a hospital room.
The clip followed heartbreaking scenes of Draper expressing his frustration during physiotherapy sessions in which he described himself as "pathetic."
