David Lammy supports Israel’s ’right to self-defence’ after banning 30 arms export licenses

David Lammy backed Israel’s right to defend themselves despite banning 30 out of 350 arms export licences on Monday, 2 September.

The foreign secretary announced that Britain would suspend the arms export licences amid a “clear risk” they could be used to breach international humanitarian law relating to the treatment of Palestinian detainees and the supply of aid to Gaza.

“The UK continues to support Israel’s right to self-defence in accordance with international law,” Mr Lammy told the House of Commons.

Mr Lammy added that he was not satisfied with the Israeli government’s answers after he had raised concerns.
