Watch: German army helps clear destruction left by heavy flooding
The German army has been brought in to help clean up areas of the country worst affected by severe flooding.
Around 500 soldiers removed rubble and cleaned the streets in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate on Thursday, as military vehicles lined the streets.
Record rainfall in western Europe caused rivers to burst their banks, with the death toll following catastrophic flooding in Germany and Belgium standing at over 100.
Hundreds more are still unaccounted for, and severe weather warnings are still in place across the continent.
