Former Post Office staff were 'unfairly penalised' says Boris Johnson
Former Post Office staff who had fraud convictions quashed at the Royal Courts of Justice on Friday were “unfairly penalised”, the Prime Minister has said. 39 out of the 42 former subpostmasters involved in the case had their names cleared after they were charged with offences such as theft and false accounting due to a defective IT accounting system. Commenting on the court’s decision, Johnson said: “Our thoughts are very much with the victims and we’ll have to make sure that people get properly looked after because it’s clear that an applling injustice has been done.”
