Woman who gives out free meals left in tears after allotment is ‘destroyed’
A food campaigner who gives out free meals had her allotment “destroyed” as vandals poured salt over the land in Harlow, Essex, to stop anything from growing.
Carly Burd provides free organic fruit and vegetables to those on benefits, pensioners, and low income.
"There were over 300 onions planted, not to mention all the potatoes. Each would have gone to a family... that’s 300 families. Not to mention the children who worked hard to plant them," Ms Burd said.
Ms Burd, who has multiple sclerosis and lupus and is herself on disability benefits, said she had fed 1,613 people.
