Moment car drives into gates of Downing Street

This is the moment a car drove into the gates outside Downing Street on Thursday, 24 May.

Footage shows a vehicle with its boot open close to Number 10 with emergency services on the scene.

Police closed Whitehall following the collision.

Officers have arrested a person on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving, the Metropolitan Police said.

It is understood that no one has been hurt.

Enquiries are ongoing, the Metropolitan Police said.
