Corfu sky glows orange as wildfires force islanders to evacuate
The Corfu sky has lit up orange as wildfires on the island have forced residents and tourists to be evacuated.
Corfu was hit by the wildfires on Sunday, July 23. Evacuation orders have been put in place for Santa, Megoula, Porta, Palia, Perithia, and Sinies.
Sea evacuations involving six coast guard vessels and nine private vessels were carried out to transport people fleeing the wildfires.
Corfu has become the second Greek island to issue evacuation orders after Rhodes, where tourists have spent the night on the airport floor, waiting for repatriation flights.
