Beirut activist says politicians still unaccountable a year after deadly blast
A year on from the chemical explosion that rocked Beirut and not a single politician or official have been held accountable for the blast, lawyer and activist Diane Assaf says.
The explosions killed more than 200 people and injured at least another 6,500 more – as well as leaving hundreds of thousands of Beirutis homeless.
Assaf, who herself has lost a friend in the blast, says that after a year not a single official report has been issued to reveal the cause of the explosion and adds that the judiciary in Lebanon isn’t capable of holding politicians to account.
