Wildlife park ‘relieved’ as Vlad the tiger survives anaesthetic

Staff at Yorkshire Wildlife Park “breathed a huge sigh of relief” when Amur tiger Vladimir woke up after receiving an anesthetic to check a condition causing a curve in his spine.

Kim Wilkins, carnivore team leader at the park, said Vlad came round from the general anaesthetic fine, and looked “annoyed, but alert”.

The tiger needed to get the procedure so that the medical team could X-ray him safely. As you can see, moving a tiger of this size is no easy feat with several people needed to be beside him to manoeuvre the 12-year-old Amur tiger accordingly.
