Tourists marvel at ‘Godzilla-like’ lizards roaming on Thai island
Tourists were fascinated by "Godzilla-like" monitor lizards roaming round an island in southern Thailand last week.
Curious holidaymakers filmed a 5ft-long reptile after it emerged near a beach on Koh Similan island in Phang-Nga province on 17 October.
Visitors took selfies with the creature before it swam into a nearby pond, before another lizard appeared to the delight of onlookers.
The reptiles are two of several monitor lizards that live on the island, Koh Similan National Park staff said.
They often visit the pond or tourist areas where they are likely to find food that has been dropped on the ground.
