Incredible Perseid meteor shower lights up skies over Croatia
Streaks of light from the Perseid meteor shower delighted stargazers as they danced across Balkan skies overnight on Sunday, 13 August.
The meteor shower occurs when Earth passes through the debris trail from the comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, according to Nasa.
Bright streaks of light illuminate the sky as particles left behind by the comet interact with the atmosphere.
People hoping to catch a glimpse of the spectacle camped out on Lastovo island off Croatia.
“It is really impressive to see, especially because the Milky Way is now visible together with the stars”, said Mario Cuvelic, a visitor from Split.
