Shrimps snap claws to create ‘catastrophic’ shock waves that ‘stun’ opponents

New research reveals that young shrimp make “catastrophic” shock waves to stun their opponents by snapping their claws.

They use their spring-loaded claws to snap like a bullet to rip through the water and make a vapour-filled bubble.

This bubble, invisible to the naked eye, then implodes, incapacitating their rivals with a click that takes less than a millisecond.
