‘I’m a mermaid now’: Shark skin used to restore child swimmer’s feet after car accident
A young competitive swimmer is back in the pool after having her feet recontructed using shark cartilage and skin following an accident.
Isabela Juricevic, from Indiana, was injured when a car crashed into her after sliding on ice on 20 January.
Doctors used pieces of a shark to put her foot back together following the incident.
“It feels awesome. I can literally tell people I’m a mermaid now,” the 12-year-old told WSBT.
Isabela is back competing again and has earned a medal since her treatment.
