Touching moment 11-year-old US cancer patient meets British donor who saved his life
An 11-year-old US cancer patient was “overwhelmed” with emotion as he met the British stem cell donor who saved his life three years ago. and cried
James Benzel was diagnosed with severe aplastic anaemia in 2018, and later developed non-Hodgkins’ lymphoma.
South Yorkshire Police constable Luke Bugdol donated his stem cells on 4 February 4 2019.
They were shipped to the US and James began the transplant process the next day.
The schoolboy is now in remission.
Mr Bugdol said: “For me it was never about meeting the person, it was just a case of doing what needed to be done.”
