Wonka actor reveals why his character is only one to not have British accent
Wonka actor Keegan-Michael Key has revealed why his character is the only one in the new film not to have a British accent.
The 52-year-old, who plays the Chief of Police in the 2023 film Wonka, appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on Wednesday (13 December).
In the interview, the actor was asked why he chose to do the accent of a New York police officer when playing the England-set part.
According to the actor, it was director Paul King who encouraged him to do something more “cop-ish” for the part, leading to Key’s accent choice.
