Why is Australia competing in the Eurovision Song Contest?
The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 has captured the nation’s hearts with 37 countries putting on their best musical performance.
However, the question that comes up year after year, is why Australia is allowed to join.
Australia joined Eurovision in 2015 to celebrate the competition’s 60th anniversary, and has appeared every year ever since, after what was supposed to be a one-off.
The contest is reportedly hugely popular in the country, and a number of Australian acts have competed as another country’s entry prior to them joining, including Olivia Newton-John, who represented the UK in 1974.
