German music festival turns into mud pit after being hit by heavy rain
A heavy metal festival in northern Germany turned into a mudbath after persistent rain dampened its opening on Wednesday, 2 August.
Organisers of the Wacken Open Air festival, located in a rural area northwest of Hamburg, had to reduce the audience size due to the conditions.
On Tuesday, fans were told that no more cars and trucks would be admitted to the site and a “total admission stop” was announced on Wednesday.
According to a statement, it is the first time since the event was first held in 1990 that organisers had to stop admissions.
