‘She was very witty’: Downton Abbey creator pays tribute to Dame Maggie Smith
Downton Abbey creator, Lord Julian Fellowes, has paid tribute to Dame Maggie Smith following her death aged 89.
The pair worked together while Smith starred as Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham on the show.
"She was very witty, she was very sharp in her humour...sometimes she was a bit unkind, but you forgave everything!", he told the BBC of her legacy.
He added: "We really had each other's rhythm - I knew how to write for her, but by God she knew how to say it."
