George Harrison’s 1965 sitar fetches more than $66,000 at auction
George Harrison's sitar he bought in 1965 has fetched $66,993 (£53,520) at auction in Los Angeles.
The Beatles star bought the instrument on Oxford Street and used it during recording sessions for "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" from the band's sixth studio album Rubber Soul.
He then took the sitar to Barbados, where he and Pattie Boyd honeymooned in 1966, before gifting it to his friend George de Vere Drummond as a thank-you for letting them stay at his house there.
