BBC appear to cut Siobhan McSweeney’s comments about government from Bafta broadcast

BBC One cut Siobhan McSweeney’s condemnation of the government at the Bafta TV Awards from their broadcast.

The Derry Girls star, 43, won the Female Performance in a Comedy prize and in her speech, thanked her family and the show’s creator, Lisa McGee, while also calling out the government.

But those comments did not make it onto the BBC One broadcast of the ceremony and instead, were only seen on the Bafta YouTube channel.

Twitter user @OhHeyJacob compared the two side-by-side, with parts of McSweeney’s speech cut by the BBC.

The Independent has contacted representatives of McSweeney and the BBC for comment.
