The urban green-fingered should head for central London, which will be transformed into a verdant oasis as the second Covent Garden Flower Festival gets under way. Focusing on small town gardens and featuring new talent, the festival includes a solar-powered garden and an urban wildlife garden.

Bangor

The international jet-set touch down in Northern Ireland for the next round of the World Offshore Powerboat Championships. Traditionally the sport of the super-rich, this will be a good chance to see how the other half lives. The week includes seafront concerts, fireworks, and powerboat action.

Toronto

Parties, theatre and Aids memorials mark a week of gay and lesbian celebration. Last year, 700,000 people enjoyed the vibrant and free-spirited atmosphere that surrounded the final parade.

24 - 27 June

Akureyri, Iceland

Find that there are simply not enough hours of daylight to fulfil your golfing needs? Head for the Arctic Open. The annual midnight golf tournament gets underway at the world's most northerly 18-hole course. Entry fee includes an opening reception, gala dinner, and sports tops with the Arctic Open logo on them. First tee-off 10pm.
