The year that Henry VIII was born, at the Palace of Placentia. The building was later reconstructed as the Greenwich Royal Naval Hospital in a project overseen by Sir Christopher Wren. Admiral Nelson's body lay in state here after his death at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805. In 1873, the Royal Naval College took up residence; today the site houses Greenwich University. Free events here tomorrow include a lantern procession and fireworks (10am-6.15pm). ornc.org
