This family-run farm B&B lies on the fringes of the famous Sussex High Weald, and is the perfect base for exploring the best of the south coast. Gracious hosts, the Ramsay-Smith family, ensure guests want for nothing. Each well-appointed room comes with everything you could need, while catering comes courtesy of the farm's own organic veg patch and livestock. The hidden gem, though, is the straw eco-lodge which overlooks the tranquil lake – an ideal retreat for creative writing, yoga or meditation.
Wimbles also boasts an adjoining campsite for tents and campervans, which is the perfect site for those who want to try a bit of wild camping but aren't sure if they can bear the potential discomforts. It's as close to wild camping as you can get, but with (very) basic ablution facilities to ease you through the experience, with two well-maintained pitching areas located by a meandering stream in a secluded flower meadow, and a standpipe for fresh water, fire-pits, compost toilets and access to a shower tent. There's only room for half a dozen or so tents, so there’s no danger of overcrowding, and if you really can't face it there's a recently renovated shepherd's hut with its own facilities in a quiet corner of the field. As for things to see and do, you can start right on the farm. Coarse fishing is available from the site's own lake, and bike hire and guided cycling tours are also available. And if you can’t hack the camping any longer, the B&B is the perfect refuge!
