Your support makes all the difference.One of the best bits of Cornwall in our opinion is the Roseland Peninsula in south Cornwall, just across the estuary from Falmouth, to which it is connected by ferry.
Its focal point, St Mawes, has been undeniably "discovered", but it’s a lovely and very Cornish fishing port resort, with a towering castle donated to the town by Henry VIII and some great places to stay and to eat, and is at the start of one of our favourite walks in the area – along the river to St Just, about two miles to the north. It’s sort of a riverside and costal walk in one, with lots of little paths leading down to tidal beaches for swims and picnics, but you may want to do it in reverse, as – unusually for this part of Cornwall – there is free parking in St Just.
Having said that, St Just is a wonderful place to arrive on foot, basically a 13th-century church set in an extraordinary sub-tropical garden right on the river. Just across the road is Miss V’s Café, which does both eat-in and takeaway picnic food (fresh bread, duck rillettes and Cornish chutney; smoked salmon, mackerel and mussels with horseradish) as well as amazing home-made cakes – and, of course, cream teas.
